Ignite Service Lines capture and categorize the actual surgeries and the follow-up visits. The parts of the journey leading up to the surgery only have one thing that distinguishes them: a morbid obesity diagnosis. Since this diagnosis is the only distinguishing diagnosis on the record, It's nearly impossible to determine if a visit is for surgical consultation, or if the encounter was to discuss obesity. Since many morbidly obese people do not get bariatric surgery, our logic system will categorize many visits leading up to Bariatric Surgery into the General Medicine Service Line.
