Question

When I export an SMS list, some contacts have home AND mobile numbers and BOTH are validated for SMS. Should I prioritize one over the other?

Answer

All telephone numbers in your Ignite Growth Platform are put through the SMS enabled validation process, so we recommend always prioritizing the number listed in the "mobile_phone" field when it shows as "TRUE" in the "mobile_phone_sms_enabled" column. If a phone number is listed in the "home_phone" column only and shows "TRUE" for being SMS enabled (and no number is shown in the "mobile_phone" field), then it should be used for text messaging.

This situation can occur due to some variances in client source systems and how data is stored and how it is extracted into a file to be loaded to the platform.

For example, one client may choose to map a patient's primary phone number to the home_phone field while another client may choose to a different mapping of phone numbers.

The best practice recommendation is to prioritize the numbers in the mobile_phone field, and then add in home_phone for any contact with only the home_phone field populated and showing "TRUE" for  SMS enabled.
